Virtual Urgent Care Northern Territory

In Australia’s remote, rural, and regional areas, such as the Northern Territory, virtual urgent care can play a significant role in helping you get timely care [2]. Having access to uncomplicated and fast 24/7 solutions can make the difference between getting the right treatment when you need it and your condition worsening. It may also save you a trip to the A&E or nearest clinic [1]. Whether you’re travelling or need a comprehensive telehealth service that can also deliver any medication to you swiftly, I’ve rounded up some of the best options. All you’ll need is a phone.

Healthdirect [3] may be your first point of call, literally. This government site offers a free 24-hour health advice line (1800 022 222), symptom checker, and service finder. It will allow you to decide whether you need to speak to a doctor in person or if a virtual service or home care is an option.

24/7 Nationwide Telehealth Providers

When choosing which provider to use in an urgent situation, response times and opening hours may be top of your mind. At the top of the list on several user review sites, such as Product Review and Trustpilot, are a few businesses that offer good service and competitive pricing as well as medication delivery. Some also provide bulk-billing for certain services, including after-hours. For more detailed information on most of these businesses, please read my reviews on MediCompare.

24/7 Providers

  • Most comprehensive telehealth provider with some of the fastest services: Hola Health is a 24/7 telehealth provider offering around-the-clock consults within 15 minutes, with some services such as repeat scripts and mental health care completely bulk-billed and other services costing from $14.90. Very fast 2-hour medicine delivery from $5.99 available.
  • Comprehensive telehealth and some bulk-billing: PrimeMedic is also open 24/7 and has some bulk-billing doctors available. (Depending on availability, you may be able to get entirely bulk-billed after-hours care.) When you can’t access Medicare-funded appointments, the service offers very transparent and simple pricing from $21.99. Getting your medication is also simple, as PrimeMedic’s site prompts you to select the nearest open pharmacy during the booking process and sends your script directly to the pharmacy with the least hassle.
  • Fast service, including medication delivery: InstantScripts doctors call back 24/7 within one hour, and it is easy to raise a follow-up request if needed with customer service (though only between 7 am and midnight). From $19 and prescriptions can be delivered during business hours and by DoorDash between 6 pm and 10 pm, if ordered by 5 pm. No bulk-billing.
  • Free for insured members: Doctors on Demand provides 24/7 telehealth consultations free for Allianz Care and BUPA members and gap-fee only mental health assessment. Some services are only available during business hours, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 6 pm (GC-based). Partner pharmacies can help deliver, but there is no information on pricing or speed available.
  • Fast access to doctors and subsidised specialists: Docto Online Hospital offers 24/7 access within 7 minutes with an online doctor (from $79). The site also offers comprehensive telehealth services, including Medicare-covered specialist care (from $35 gap fee) within hours. The service also assists with travel insurance and Australians travelling overseas. No assistance with getting your medication delivered.
  • Virtual emergency room with senior emergency specialist doctors: My Emergency Doctor is Australia’s first virtual 24/7 emergency room. It is the only service offering access to senior specialist emergency doctors. Similar to the actual AE, you will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis by a doctor specializing in emergency care. You can call 1800 123 663 or click on "Call Doctor" on the website. Downsides are the cost of $150, which may only be partially subsidized for some patients.

Some After-Hours Support

  • Fast, highly rated, affordable: Updoc is an entirely online service that has doctors available within minutes, usually within 1hour between 6 am and 12 am every day. It costs from $29 and had the highest Trustpilot user ratings in 2025. Downsides: Surge pricing sometimes applies. No doctors are available between 12 am and 6 am. No bulk-billing.
  • Fast consults and delivery, some bulk-billing: Medmate is open from 7 am to 11 pm AEST and offers doctors’ consultations within one hour, like most other top-rated services. Costs start from $19.90, and mental health appointments are bulk-billed. The site makes it easy to choose between home delivery and pharmacy pickup. It also offers 1-hour delivery in some locations between 9 am and 9 pm for $15.
  • Fully Bulk-billed after-hours: Abby Health has a “next available appointment” bar at the top for its bulk-billed doctors’ consultations. The service is 24/7 and entirely free for patients with a Medicare card. Downsides: It does not offer medication delivery, and you frequently have to wait several hours for the next available appointment.
  • Fast, extended hours: Next Clinic is open 6 am to 12 am, 7 days a week. Services start from $19.90 and doctors call within one hour. No bulk-billing. No assistance getting script filled.
  • Very fast, some bulk-billing: Instant Consult offers a range of GP services including consultations, medical certificates, prescriptions, and specialist referrals. Connect with qualified online doctors instantly from 6 am-midnight (AEST) 7 days a week, 365 days a year, through video call. From just $45 and bulk-billed.
  • Bulk-billed after-hour care: 13SICK offers fully bulk-billed care before 8 am/ after 6 pm Monday to Friday, Saturdays before 8 am/ after noon, all-day Sundays and public holidays. It can assist with pharmacy delivery with a pharmacy of your choice. Wait times are frequently long. The doctor outcall option is not available in most regional and remote areas.

Summary

There are plenty of options to choose from depending on your needs. My recommendation is to contact My Emergency Doctor if you can afford it and need urgent senior doctor care. If you know you are best off speaking to a specialist, Docto Online Hospital is your best bet. All other 24/7 telehealth providers I highlighted should be able to help you in a timely manner, but Hola Health and PrimeMedic are my top of the crop (also offering some bulk-billing). Free care for less urgent concerns may be easier to find via HealthDirect’s service finder or through one of the telehealth providers that I listed as providing bulk-billed sessions after hours, including Abby Health. Ultimately, paying a little more will likely get you faster service with more senior doctors.

Disclaimer

Please research your telehealth options well yourself and note that telehealth is only meant as a complementary service to primary healthcare. It is a good option when access to a primary care physician is not available due to your location, inability to travel or after-hours needs. 000 should be contacted immediately in case of a life-threatening emergency.
